Getting started: Hands-on guide

Introduction

Welcome to the Official Site® Getting Started guide for Ledger.com/Start®. This page walks you through the essential steps to set up your device, secure your recovery phrase, and connect to desktop and mobile applications. Follow each heading (H1–H5) as a focused section in your on-boarding flow.

Before you begin

Ensure you are in a private place, have a stable internet connection, and are using a trusted computer or mobile device. Do not share your recovery phrase with anyone. Treat it like the key to your assets.

What you'll need

Step-by-step setup

Step 1 — Power & initialize

Turn on your Ledger device, select "Initialize as new device" and choose a secure PIN. Remember the PIN; entering it incorrectly repeatedly may lock the device temporarily.

Step 2 — Write down your recovery phrase

The device will display a recovery phrase (24 words). Write them down in order and store the sheet in a secure, separate location. This is the only backup of your accounts.

Step 3 — Install Ledger Live

Install Ledger Live on your desktop or mobile device. Ledger Live is the official app for managing accounts, installing apps on your device, and checking balances.

Step 4 — Add accounts & install apps

Using Ledger Live, install the specific cryptocurrency apps (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) to your hardware device, then add corresponding accounts to Ledger Live to view balances.

Security best practices

Never enter your recovery phrase into a computer, phone, or website. Keep your firmware updated; verify firmware updates through Ledger Live. Use official links only — check the URL bar and avoid clicking suspicious links.

If you lose your device

Recover your accounts by initializing a replacement device and entering your recovery phrase exactly as recorded. If your recovery phrase is lost, your funds cannot be restored.

Accessibility & support

Ledger provides support documentation and localized guides on the official site. For sensitive problems, consult official support channels only — avoid disclosing recovery words in support chats.

Useful links: Office resources & downloads

Below are 10 quick links to common Microsoft Office apps and helpful resources you can use for documentation, presentations, and tracking your onboarding checklist. These are example links — replace with your organization-specific URLs if needed.

Formatting tips for your office documents

When creating training materials or presentations, keep headings consistent (use H1 for slide titles, H2 for major sections, H3 for subtopics). Use color-coded cards or icons for critical security notes, and include a visible "Important — Recovery Phrase" slide.
